About the Library
The Whitefish Bay Public Library was established in 1937 in the basement of the old Village Hall.  The Library was an instant success, and its collection grew rapidly.  The first building was constructed in 1955 and served the Library well for many years, but as circulation increased, the collection grew and space became limited.  By 2001, over 55,000 items were housed in a building designed to hold 32,000.

After carefully considering a variety of sites,  models and sizes, the Village of Whitefish Bay and the Whitefish Bay Public Library decided to expand the existing building to create a library almost three times the size which could provide the necessary space and allow for additional and expanded services.

In June of 2002, the beautiful new Whitefish Bay Library opened and is now able to offer materials in more formats, two lovely reading rooms, study rooms, a program room for library and public use, 11 Internet stations and additional programming.
