thumbnail Romance Novels

by Sharon Nagel on February 19, 2023

Since we are close to Valentine’s Day, let’s talk about the wonderful and large selection of romance novels that are available today. I never used to read this genre, except of course for Harlequin romances back when my sister and I were tweens. But then the pandemic hit, and I was suddenly desperate for happy endings.

Now there are so many different kinds of romances available. It doesn’t matter what you are into – there is a book or a series for you.

Here are some of the latest titles that are available at the Whitefish Bay Library:

Sorry, Bro by Taleen Voskuni – This is about an Armenian-American woman who rediscovers her roots and embraces her bisexuality.

The Ex-Hex by Erin Starling – This is a fun story about a witch who put a hex on her ex-boyfriend, and then must deal with the consequences when he turns up in her town

Husband Material by Alexis Hall – Luc and Oliver are in love, but they are feeling pressured to take the next step as everyone around them seems to be getting married.

Love and Other Disasters by Anita Kelly – Dahlia is recently divorced and facing bankruptcy. She goes on a reality television show called Chef’s Special. She falls for one of her rivals on the show, London, a nonbinary chef.

The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang – A mathematician with Asperger’s hires an escort to help her gain experience in dating.

According to BookRiot, romance novels are more popular than ever. Two of the reasons for this trend are the pandemic and BookTok. During the pandemic, people had more time at home and the COVID news was scary, so they turned to romance as an escape. TikTok was also very popular during lockdown. Previously, romance novels were read by readers aged 35-54. Now, the genre is incredibly popular among readers aged 18-34 as well. Romance is a very popular genre with BookTok, causing certain authors to go viral.

Stop by the Whitefish Bay Library and try some of our fun romance books. Happy endings are guaranteed.

I would like to let you know that Boswell Book Company has a Romance Book Club led by the very knowledgeable and capable Rachel. They meet virtually every 4th Monday at 7 pm.
