Crafting Your Writing: A Practical (and Fun!) Writing Workshop
Wed, Oct 30th
6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
You are a writer, or you want to be. And you love your art and craft---knitting, quilting, crochet, other arts. Join us at Whitefish Bay Library as author Lynne Shaner leads this workshop on using your strength in one to serve the other.
Writing is daunting, no matter where you are in your journey. Sometimes, what started as an exciting journey can sometimes become weighed down with years of unfinished projects, or life just gets in the way. Other times, beginning at all can be challenging. But as a crafty soul, you already know how to select yarn or fiber, find or create a pattern, then begin, enjoy, and finish the project.
Did you know that the skills you draw on routinely to finish your crafting projects are ones you can repurpose for your writing?
And, you might want to think about incorporating your craft into your writing—perhaps a character who knits or quilts? Or a beloved yarn shop or fabric shop that is featured in the work? The aspects of your craft that you love can be conveyed on the page to illuminate characters and setting, and even become plot points.
As a knitter and published novelist, Lynne successfully uses those skills and others in her own writing, and will be sharing her experience with us in this workshop. And readers will know that knitting features prominently in her novel. Come join the fun—and feel free to bring your projects.
Lynne Shaner is the debut author of Journey to Everland Bay, and has also published short stories, essays, nonfiction, and poetry. She is also an avid knitter—and knitting shows up prominently in her novel. Lynne lives in Whitefish Bay with her husband and her sweet pup, Merlin. When not writing, she can be found reading or knitting in her garden, where she grows herbs, flowers, and story ideas.
Lynne will give a short reading and her book will be available for signing.
